How to check with this restaurant

On the official site's new and recommended products page, each product shows icons for allergens such as egg, wheat and milk, with anything further added as a sentence in the form 「その他「大豆」を含む」 (also contains soy). The products that carry an entry are mainly the Daily Hot items, together with bread and sweets; Daily Hot covers bento boxes, rice balls and sandwiches as well as bread. Other bento boxes, rice balls, sandwiches and noodles often carry no entry at all, and many products are not on this page. For those, check the labelling on the shelf or on the wrapper, or ask the customer enquiry line on 0120-749-142 (9:00-17:00, open every day). Some products are not sold in certain regions (for example Akita, Aomori, or Kyushu).

Notes for reading

This page lists new and recommended products; it is not a complete list of everything the stores carry. Clicking a product name opens a pop-up, and some of these pop-ups show allergen information while others do not. As a tendency, the Daily Hot items, and bread and sweets, do carry allergen information, while the remaining rice balls, bento boxes, sandwiches and noodles often do not. Where allergen information is shown, icons mark egg, wheat, milk, peanut and shrimp, and other items such as soy, pork and apple are added either as a sentence in the form 「その他「大豆」を含む。」 (also contains soy), or simply as a comma-separated list of item names, depending on the product. The page does not state how many allergen items it covers in total, and there is no legend explaining what the icons or the wording mean. On some products, a note about cross-contact during the manufacture of an ingredient is placed in the product description rather than in the allergen entry, so read the description as well. A product with no entry has not been confirmed to be free of allergens. In the same way, on a product that does have an entry, an item that is not named has not been confirmed to be absent.

Legibility notes

The page is shown as text and is straightforward to read. The allergen icons are images, but each carries the name of the item alongside it.

How to read the symbols

The original document uses the symbols below. Our table shows the original symbol next to items with possible cross-contact.

How to read the symbols —
How it appearsMeaningCross-contact scope
This document shows a product's allergens in two forms. One is an icon: a white drawing inside an orange rounded square (a cracked egg, an ear of wheat, a milk bottle, a peanut, a shrimp) with the item name printed below the square. Five icons are used in this document: egg, wheat, milk, peanut and shrimp. The other is a single sentence placed below the icons, which appears either with the item names in brackets, as in 「その他「大豆」を含む。」 (also contains soy), or simply as item names separated by commas, as in 「大豆、豚肉、りんご」 (soy, pork, apple). In both forms, an item that is named is contained in that product.
The scope of possible cross-contact is not specified
Blank (our reading)This document has no per-item columns; it only lists the names of the allergens a product contains. When an item's name does not appear in a product's entry, the document is saying nothing about that item. It nowhere states that items it does not name are unused, and it does not state how many items it covers, so this site does not read that state as "does not contain" and treats it as undetermined instead. That is this site's own judgement, and it is not a guarantee against unintended cross-contact.
The scope of possible cross-contact is not specified
On some products the document places a note about cross-contact during the manufacture of an ingredient in the product description rather than in the allergen entry: a sentence in the product description such as 「※ベーコンは、エビやカニ、小麦、卵、乳成分を含む原料を使用した設備で生産しています。」 (the bacon is produced on equipment that also handles ingredients containing shrimp, crab, wheat, egg and milk) or 「※パンの製造工場では、卵を含む製品も製造しています。」 (the factory that makes the bread also makes products containing egg). The document writes this as a sentence, not a symbol, and it names both the item and the process (the same equipment, the same line, the same factory and so on). It does not mean the named item is used in the product; this site reads it as a statement about possible cross-contact.
